The Dechoker is a life saving device which can be used for choking first aid on anyone, regardless of age, illness, disorder, or other health-related condition. With little training, the Dechoker can prevent accidental choking deaths. The Dechoker comes in three sizes designed to help an adult, child, or toddler in the case of a choking emergency.
• A choking death occurs every two hours.
• One child dies every 5 days from choking.
• Choking causes 100,000+ visits to the ER yearly.
• Choking is a leading cause of death in persons over 65.
• Over 100 million Americans have no defense against choking due to pregnancy, disability, obesity or being alone.
• More people die from choking than die in fires, non-fire related carbon monoxide poisoning, drowning or accidental shootings.
Have someone call 911.
Remove DeCHOKER from package and assure choking victim that help is on the way.
Tilt head back and lift chin for optimal access to airway.
Insert tube into mouth with respirator mask covering mouth and nose. Use tube to place over tongue as a guide.
Hold respirator mask between your thumb and fingers and apply light but firm pressure to form a seal between the face and mask.
Continue to apply light pressure on the mask while pulling the plunger out with force to remove the obstruction.
If victim is still choking, repeat steps 4 and 5. Multiple pumps can be performed to create additional suction if necessary.
Once debris has been dislodged, roll individual over on their side to allow additional debris and/or fluid out of the mouth.
In 2009, Alan Carver, our Inventor, was attending Sea School to gain his 200-Ton Captain’s License. During the medical training portion, Mr. Carver realized that in the event an individual choked while working on a supply vessel, there would be no hospital or emergency crew there to save a life.
During that class, one of the instructors suggested that in the event of an emergency choking situation, a tracheotomy would have to be performed in order to save a life. After hearing this, Mr. Carver felt there had to be another way.
As a result of Mr. Carver's idea, and working with many respected medical device engineers, FDA Consultants and health care professionals the Dechoker medical device was born and four years later has gained FDA registration.
